Dubai has the nicest roads in the world, which any motorist would love to ride on. But, roadways are not racetracks; you must follow all traffic laws.
Compliance with road traffic restrictions, like compliance with any other public order norm, is rigorously observed in Dubai. All breaches are punishable by enormous fines, and the penalties are severe — no excuses, bribes, or disputes will help you; on the contrary, they may make matters worse.
The UAE’s road traffic rules are essentially the same as in other nations, but there are certain differences that a tourist should be aware of before renting a car in Dubai and embarking on a conquering mission in this beautiful metropolis.
DUBAI ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATIONS’ SPECIALITIES
One of the most notable features of UAE highways is the abundance of traffic circles. Visitors who are unfamiliar with such arrangements may struggle to make their way through heavy traffic. It is critical to obey the following rule: automobiles going along the circle have priority. This rule is applied by default; consequently, if there are no road signs at an intersection, follow this rule as well. But, if there is a sign, you must obey it.
Inside municipal limits, the speed restriction is up to 60 km/h, whereas on highways, the speed limit is up to 100 km/h. This rule also applies by default, even if there are no appropriate road signs nearby. Again, if you see a sign, you must obey the speed restriction listed on the sign, such as 40 km/h.
Even if there are no police nearby, this does not mean you can violate restrictions with impunity – it simply will not work. The city streets and highways are outfitted with several radars that detect speeding offenses and photograph the offending vehicle. The infraction information is promptly transmitted to the police database — and you’re in trouble.
